It comes loosely-rolled, so you don't need to 'train' it to lay flat. Just make sure the bottom of your tub is wet, and then flatten the mat down, and that's it. You do not need to spend time pushing down on every single suction cup. Just use your hand and swipe it down across the entire surface by applying a fair amount of pressure, and it will stay put until you decide to pick it up again and/or re-position it. If you get it wrong and want to re-align it, no problem. Just pull the whole thing up and do it again. It is very flexible and forgiving of any mistakes you might make. Content: This shower mat is very expensive. So expensive that I took a chance with a few other less expensive brands first. And those less expensive brands were a complete waste of money. One of them worked so poorly that I just threw it away; it never got used. So I have one complaint about this Gorilla Grip branded mat, and if you haven't guessed by now, it is the price. That's it. My only complaint. Everything else I've got to say about it is pure praise. It grips better than any other brand, it's comfortable to stand on, it's very easy to wash, and it's the most attractive. It comes loosely-rolled, so you don't need to 'train' it to lay flat. Just make sure the bottom of your tub is wet, and then flatten the mat down, and that's it. You do not need to spend time pushing down on every single suction cup. Just use your hand and swipe it down across the entire surface by applying a fair amount of pressure, and it will stay put until you decide to pick it up again and/or re-position it. If you get it wrong and want to re-align it, no problem. Just pull the whole thing up and do it again. It is very flexible and forgiving of any mistakes you might make. I put mine in the washing machine every month or two to get any soap/conditioner/lotion residue off. Wash in cold or lukewarm water, and air dry. Do not put in dryer! No need to, and the heat could damage the rubber. So just buy this brand right away, and you'll be happier in the long run. Buying other cheaper brands will just be wasted money in my experience. This is a high-quality, well-designed product that will last for several years if taken care of.

Content: I LOVE this in-shower mat- I wish I would have bought it sooner! I live in an older home and my tub was feeling very slippery- I had near falling incidents more than once. After reading the reviews on this product, I decided to give it a try. It takes minimal effort to make the product stick because the suction cups are so strong; you just press down in a few places across the mat. I've never felt it slip this first month I've been using it. Another review suggested shower hooks to dry it, and that was the best suggestion! After my shower, I rinse the mat quickly and hang it up on the shower hooks. Instructions aren't clear on how many times you're supposed to machine wash it, so for now I'm aiming for twice a month. We'll see how that impacts the suction (I'm hoping it doesn't). But this mat is incredible and I now feel safe in my tub/shower- it is well worth the money! You won't regret this purchase.

Content: Really like the extra length this mat has over traditional mats. Slip resistance is very good. Rolled right out and suctioned down to tub. Hasn't slipped a bit since we placed it over a week ago. Very slight plastic smell when opening package, but no odor after a minute or two, and none since. Being machine washable is a big bonus. My wife and I love it, and feel much safer using it. Highly recommend!

Content: I gave this mat one less star because I'm having difficulty getting this mat to suction to the tub even after applying a little bit of water. Once my grandson stepped into the tub the mat stayed down. Otherwise, the mat seems durable, easy to clean/rinse. I hope the color hides soap residue.
