This is a polyester blend "microfiber" which has caught on the jagged metal of the bed a few times, but that's what microfiber does. Zipper is the fine type you have to be careful opening and closing. My dated comforter is shorter than this and doesn't have ties so I periodically have to get the corners of the comforter and duvet cover aligned: if your comforter is short, don't worry, it doesn't look bad and not a huge problem to realign them from time to time by shaking them out. Have washed it 2 times, didn't notice any fading.
