What I really like about this grate, so far, is its width. It fills up the entire fireplace and has smaller openings between grate bars, making the fires much more efficient. Do not purchase this product unless you are only interested in looking at it. It will not last as an actual fire grate.

I bought this guy because of its high ratings and relatively low cost. I have to say that, though I've only used it once so far, the results were pretty spectacular. Normally I keep my condo at 55F in the winter to save money and use the fireplace on nights when I'll be around the house for an extended period of time. With the old grate we'd be lucky to get the house to warm up by about 5-6 degrees. However, with this new one I was able to get an increase in temp by 8-10 degrees in only 3 hours! What I really like about this grate, so far, is its width. It fills up the entire fireplace and has smaller openings between grate bars, making the fires much more efficient. Note that the grate DOES taper in the back so it's shaped more like a trapezoid. Make sure that you measure your fireplace well at both the front and back widths as well as the depth. Cheers

I am reasonably sure I burned at least 5 cords of wood in it before it showed signs of breaking from the heat. This cast iron grate is breaking up after only 4 fires.
