I don't have a long neck lighter so I filled the metal container just a little ways and then took a small piece of paper towel, lit it and dropped it in. It's a small clean flame that puts off a little heat. It didn't struggle to burn at all in the rain or breeze. I'd suggest keeping it away from anything very flammable because any little breeze does make the flames move all over. Overall, worth the price and the half cm I poured in lasted me several minutes. I imagine having it filled to the max level or using 90% ipa would make it last for quite a long time!

My first fire went out about 10 minutes ago, and these are my impressions and experiences. I started out with about 1.5 inches of 70% alcohol. It would not light or it immediately went out, so make sure you put enough fuel in. I added more alcohol, maybe 3 inches total. I was able to light it after 5 tries, but that amount only burned for around 20-25 minutes. I should have timed it, so I could say exactly. I had 6 to 8 inch flames, measuring from the top of the unit. There was a good amount of attractive, mesmerizing flames, and it does put out heat to the immediate area. The exterior of the concrete didn't get hot right away, but it did halfway through and is still hot after about 15 minutes. I put it on a silicone honeycomb disc, but no heat transferred from the fake marble base to the disc. Maybe with a longer burn time it would, I don't know. The bottom edge of the "marble" is ragged, with small chips. I didn't notice that at first. I'm not sure if the base will hold up, but you could put the unit on a piece of flat stone of some kind, or some other heat-resistant surface to protect the table you have it on. The bottom line is, I don't think I'd buy any of the ones cheaper than this one.
