Originally I'd hope to use it underneath my other coverings, as a solid layer of protection but the shape of my couch doesn't work for this. So instead I use it as a top layer which ultimately keeps this kitten off the couch unless we're on it ourselves. This particular also has a problem with licking and nursing on fleece blankets. So it's convenient to be able to toss our throw underneath and not have to fold and store them away every time. The only issue I have with is, knocking a star off, is the odor. It's so strong. Even days after having it on my couch the smell hasn't dissipated and it's actually permeating the soft layers underneath it. I'm hoping with more time the smell will go away because this covering is so much easier than placing the individual cat deterrent mats and this truly protects the couch from the cat and can't be pushed off. I would like to see this in other sizes also. I don't like the idea of keeping pets off furniture because it's not fair to them. But in my case a behavior issue is forcing me to protect my couch. Hopefully after some time this will break him. But either way this is a great way to protect furniture.
