Pellet Stove HP22- 50,000 BTU

Content: I had a wood stove for 30 years and we switched to this pellet stove. I wish I would have switched 20 years ago. What an amazing stove. The entire 3,200 square foot house is kept warm and I literally fill it once a day. Very quite and on eco it will shut itself off and on when the temp range is attained. Some of the older reviews said the instruction were small and not well written, but apparently they fixed that, because my instructions were well written, easy to follow and had QR codes to videos which made the install a snap. If you are buying this stove, which I highly recommend, don't cheap out and for sure buy the hopper extension. Best $180 you'll ever spend, beside the stove.

Content: I bought this Comfortbilt HP22 to replace a 10yr old 40k btu pellet stove in our home. The quality of this unit was very good and after install fired right up with no problems. The heat output of the HP22 was far greater than the old stove. We are very happy with this purchase.

Content: Seems quite accurate as far as temp goes. Well packaged. Easy set up.About as loud as a box fan. Great looks, really like the wrap around glass for viewing. Remote only works from 6' away, hoping that is an easy fix. Update; have used for several weeks now, tonight status was stop, no explanation so I turned it off and restarted it. After 5 minutes of nothing we noticed smoke pouring out, the whole filled up. I opened the door and windows and got a fan going. Then all of a sudden it exploded into flame. I can only imagine the burn pot was too full and it produced lots of smoke until it finally burst into flame. Pretty scary.

Content: Hot damn n' biscuits n' gravy! I was just walking away from my computer where I was asking the seller (Comfortbilt) via email if they could spot me a couple door magnets broken in shipping - the phone rang. It was Comfortbilt looking to get me new magnets! The stove arrived in perfect shape except the two door magnets on the left side had cracked apart. I saw no other damage opposite the magnets so otherwise it came in perfect shape. Packaging something that size and weight such that nothing breaks is, I'm sure, not trivial. So two magnets cracking is about the smallest problem I've seen in most freight coming from Amazon sellers. My experience with wood stoves is only with an Englander catalyst stove. That stove is well made, >95% efficient when well maintained, but a bit tough to clean. Their customer service has also been quite good for me. I think I might not have used brass/steel combuster fasteners. Could have made that easier to clean and service without adding too much complexity. This is a _really_ sweet stove. Has been easy to use, easy to keep clean, very quiet and can really deliver heat after a surprisingly rapid warm up starting from cold. If there is anything I could change it might be the foot print shape, but I knew the shape/size when I ordered so wasn't disappointed at all. I believe the stove is "made in china", _however_, and this is very important, it was almost certainly designed in the US. I would prefer to have every last part made in the US, but that is frequently impractical. Our values have changed. I don't see people working for quality, I see people wanting fast cash willing to produce mediocrity. The American consumer wants as much as they can get for the least amount of cost, which is pretty normal human behavior. The bad part of this is that the money isn't all staying local. The good part that we too often take for granted is that Chinese production is only ever as good as the engineering design. The Chinese built a very well-designed stove, because they *can*. That means all of the pollution from producing just about everything on the planet, hangs over the heads of people feeding their families just like we do. Moving so much production to China isn't China's fault, it's been facilitated by our wonderfully brilliant and pure-of-heart Congress. I'd like to say it's our fault for voting them in, but we don't have much of a talent pool to choose from. The system needs a re-design. Ok, enough of that, I really like this stove and I think it will stay with us the rest of our lives.

Content: Stove works well, and easy to clean. The outer skins and window give the feeling of being very nicely constructed, and look like they should last quite a while. Heat output is great with hardwood pellets, and acceptable with softwoods, but expect to use a higher feed rate to burn them down to ash more completely. Mine will go about 2 days between cleans (2-3 bags worth) but it will not run 100% of the time, unless you top off the hopper, or knock the pellets down off the sides, they kind of build up on the edges and the auger runs dry. Not really an issue if you pay attention to it. It will hold about 50-60 pounds of pellets if you push them to the sides, so it will make it a full night and beep at you in the morning that the auger has run out. As for the noise level.. I'd put it at about the level of a gaming PC, the fans are steady and you know they're going, You could watch TV with this going in the same room, but you would need to turn the TV up some. It's not silent, but I wouldnt call it disturbing either. I've heard much louder ones, but not many that are quieter. My only beef with it is the instructions, or should I say Myonlybeefwiththemistheinstructionsthenetirebookhasnospacesorpunctuationwhatsoevermakingitalmostimpossibletoreadanduse the book has somewhat useful pictures and charts, but dont bother trying to read it without a magnifying glass and some time, the font is TINY and there is no spacing or punctuation. The book also references some things that my unit does not have, and leaves out a few things to do when cleaning it. T0he instructions on how to mount the contol box are also sketchy at best, it appears that the instructions may cover several versions of this stove. For example, there is no reference in my manual to the heat pipe cleaning scraper that is built in to my stove (small silver ball on a rod.) Before opening the door, you need to move this in and out a few times until it has scraped the ash buildup off the transfer pipes. Using it with the door open makes a nice mess. Touching it while it's running will result in a nice burn I'd assume, no warning about this, since its not even in the manual. None of this was a major issue for me, as I am an equipment repair technician by trade, just be aware that if you are new to pellet stoves, or arent the type of person to change your oil, there will be a bit of a learning curve. It will be VERY worth it, though, as this seems like a very well built stove that performs nicely. Update: 2 years later... Still working well enough. I have since found extra cleanout panels inside the back of the unit that require pulling off the silver side panels to get to. Without getting these and removing and cleaning the fan housing monthly, youwill get a lazy flame. I have also had air issues (different pellet brands and levels, even with some that were pre dried in a stove as a test). I ended up getting a bilge fan and installed it on the air intake port with a speed controller. That little bit of CFM extra (10% speed=about 15cfm) and I can now run this on 5 without the burn pot overflowing in 2 hours. At 5, this thing is an utter beast. It will heat my house to 80, when its 0 outside. I wouldn't recommend doing what I did, simply because they're supposed to be air pulled, not pushed,and you risk blowing smoke and CO into the house. My unit is near a walk out basement door with a CO detector nearby. I can just slide the door open if we have a problem. Update 7 years on:. Still own it, still use it all winter. Its had 1 new burn pot, a door gasket, auger bearings 2x and an exhaust fan since I first bought it, as far as non consumables go. It's getting its 3rd igniter this year, but those are like brakes/oil on your car. Just things you need to do. Comfortbilt made a hopper extension for it, that lets me put in 2 bags at a time to let me get a full 24 hours out of it without worrying about running out on really cold nights. There have been a few frustrations with it, not that I didn't expect them. I now keep a spare igniter on hand. I get them from the manufacturer directly for about $10/ea, vs 40 and a long wait from Comfortbilt. Having to start the thing with a blowtorch is annoying while you wait for a part to show up. The auger bearing issue is annoying as well, because it just sits there making farting noises as it runs until you can replace it. There is no dust shield on it, so it gets gummed up. I put in a shielded bearing last year, we'll see ho long it lasts. Overall, I'd still buy this exact model again without hesitation. It has kept us warm for an affordable price. We're spending about 1k/year in heat now, vs 1k/mo for electric heat from November to April. If you're looking for a quality pellet stove, this is it.
