Although cotton is a natural fiber it uses more pesticides and resources, ie water to produce than any other natural fiber used in fabrics. Pesticides are also used in the finished products to prevent insects during shipping and storage. So without oetex oversight it may be 100% cotton but not necessarily a "clean" product and that just doesn't work for me. On a positive note, I will say that for the price, with a $10 discount sale these sheets are worth the sale price if softness and oetek are not a priority. They came beautifully packaged so nice for gift giving. The workmanship is good, no loose threads, uneven hem lines or bunched up stitching.
