My old set had the screw-on handles and even the bottom end of the poker was a screw on. Plus the shovel wasn't that wide. With this new Fire Pit tools set you have thicker built tools and the poker is one-piece from top to bottom. The shovel has the rod from the handle going through the back of the shovel and then welded so it's a lot stronger and durable. The handles are very hard plastic that I think is heat treated to slide them on and then let them shrink and cool down forming a very tight grip on the iron. This set is more impressive than the pictures show honestly. The tongs, which I thought look kind of flimsy in the pictures, are very strong and rigid and love the gripping teeth they have cut into them so logs don't slip out. Plus they have the extended tip on the tongs so you can grip very small pieces of wood if needed. The shovel has the rod from the handle going through the back of the shovel and then welded so it's a lot stronger and durable. The handles are very hard plastic that I think is heat treated to slide them on and then let them shrink and cool down forming a very tight grip on the iron. This set is more impressive than the pictures show honestly. The tongs, which I thought look kind of flimsy in the pictures, are very strong and rigid and love the gripping teeth they have cut into them so logs don't slip out. Plus they have the extended tip on the tongs so you can grip very small pieces of wood if needed. The shovel is wider than my older shovel I had to it takes less time to clean the woodstove out now which can be a deciding factor for some people I would think. Just really can't say enough good things about this set of Fire Pit Tools. Very well made and high quality too. Long enough to work safely in a woodstove or fireplace as well.

Content: I’ve really enjoyed using this product so far. It appears to be made of a high quality iron material and has serated teeth to easily and securely grasp firewood. The one issue I found with it, however, is that it the clasps sometimes become inverted if you extend the arms too far. This isn’t a huge deal but it has lead to scratches and blemishes along the teeth blades, and could possibly impeded performance in the future or even break the product in its entirety should it continue to reoccur. To summarize, I am satisfied with my purchase for the most part despite the above mentioned issue and do recommend this to others who are looking for a safer alternative to topping off their fires.

My old set had the screw-on handles and even the bottom end of the poker was a screw on. Plus the shovel wasn't that wide. With this new Fire Pit tools set you have thicker built tools and the poker is one-piece from top to bottom.
