Advantages

  • Offers added insulation against heat, especially beneficial in hot and sunny climates, keeping indoor temperatures more comfortable.
  • Natural reed material absorbs heat, unlike metal or plastic blinds which may retain and radiate heat.
  • Provides a soft light filter, letting in daylight while reducing the harshness of direct sunlight.
  • Enhances privacy during peak sunny hours without completely blocking the view of the outdoors.
  • Complements a variety of decors with its natural look and introduces a light, tiki vibe if desired.
  • Easy to install with a simple hanging mechanism, doable with minimal tools and effort.
  • Cord-free design is a safer option for households with children and pets, reducing the risk of entanglement.
  • Affordably priced compared to many other shades and blinds on the market, providing value for money.
  • Removable and easy to roll up in case of weather events or when cleaning is required.
  • Gentle on the eyes, allowing for a diffused view without the need for sunglasses indoors.

Disadvantages

  • May arrive with some damage, such as broken bamboo pieces, due to shipping and handling.
  • Construction is considered by some to be less durable, potentially vulnerable to wear and tear.
  • Not suitable for complete light blocking, may not meet the needs of those seeking full darkness.
  • The gap between the reeds allows some light through, which may be a downside for some users.
  • Instructions are not ideally located, leading to potential confusion during installation.
  • Includes plastic connector pieces for rolling up which may seem flimsy and possibly short-lived.
  • Experience with the product's sturdiness may vary, with some finding it thick and sturdy, others thin and brittle.
  • Inconsistent quality control, as some customers receive different quality shades when ordering multiples.
  • Although more natural looking, the individual reeds are delicate and may require careful handling.
  • Might not provide ample privacy at night, as the shade is more sheer than some might expect.

Conclusion

The Radiance Cord Free, Roll-up Reed Shade presents a blend of beauty, functionality, and affordability. It's an excellent choice for those in search of a natural, cordless shade option that softens light and adds a touch of elegance to any space. Title: Summertime in The Desert Southwest
Content: I purchased this shade for a *south* facing sliding glass door. The door opens to a large brick patio with a pergola that has been built to cover this entire section of the patio. Because the cover/roof—or lack thereof—of the pergola is open and splotchy at best for providing shelter from the broiling desert sun I needed an added layer over the glass. This isn't always necessary but as temperatures begin to hang in the 100° marks well past sunset, just a little extra layer over the glass can add comfort to the interior temperatures and allow me to keep my sunglasses in my purse and my curtains open during the day. I'm speaking mostly to people who live in the dry, desert SW looking to use natural shades for a purpose: you like daylight coming in so in the morning you're likely to crack the blinds or open curtains while on your way to the kitchen to start the coffee. But you have that *one* window or *one* door that, come 4:00, you have to close the curtain because the deathrays of the sun are either baking the glass and the inside of that corner of you're space or you also have pavement right out there under the glass, which now makes you the cupcake in your own little Easy Bake Oven. A shade made from reed, bamboo or other natural type materials will help *absorb* the heat from that glass and restore comfort in the room. Metal blinds or some plastics will only attract and retain the heat in the same way that a cookie sheet does in the oven and only contribute to discomfort in a hot, south or west facing space. In addition to serving a purpose you get the added bonus of something that looks nice unlike your neighbors tinfoil or cut-to-fit insulation sheets they plastered all over their trouble window. Oy. There are people who have bought this shade and were then surprised and disappointed at the lack of privacy. For those who are looking for privacy you want *blinds*; If you want a diffused view out your glass for the purpose of temperature control and a bit of privacy during peak, sunny hours throughout the daytime then you want a *shade*. Think of it in terms of standing near a big oak tree - if you are standing underneath the tree in the *shade* then I can see you; if you're standing behind the trunk of that oak tree then the trunk is going to conceal you or *blind* my view of you. The matchstick shade I had in this window for years was a very lovely, dark fruit wood color but now I am going lighter on the tones in my house. My old shade would roll up with the the cords and that's all there was on the market for ages. It was also equally inexpensive as this one. Now, it seems, you're paying 3X for a roller shade with cords. Given that I never once rolled my old shade up I'm happy to have a roller shade with -zero- cords and plastic weird clip things I threw away immediately after digging out the hooks from the packaging. This was super easy to hang on my own with my girly drill. As a tip, if you find your blind seems a little lopsided once you hang it then hold the top frame and gently stretch it down. You'll want to do that a few times over the coming days because this is woven, natural materials and not manufactured to rigid behavior right out of the box. Work with it, gently; it will even out and settle in. Meanwhile, I am very happy with my purchase as it was just what I needed and expected.

Title: In Love
Content: I posted a before and after of my window. I’m in love with this shade! It lets the perfect light in at day time too! Easy to hang up and take down if needed. I seriously want to throw every blind out in my house now and have these shades instead! Now time to save money and start buy one at a time for all my other windows.

Title: A lot of valid critical reviews, buuut...
Content: So, I just received this product and immediately, I was blown away by the look and style. I thought it looked fantastic. I was leaning towards a light tiki feel on my porch, and this delivers that (if you're looking for it.) As I began to read the instructions and assemble it, I realized a lot of the criticisms I have read in the reviews here are valid and I can see some of the same flaws and vulnerabilities that are probably inevitable. The BEEFS: 1- I too had a few very small broken bamboo pieces. Just a few. Nothing to warrant a return. My box was pretty beat-up on one end, so I can imagine with this packaging and whatever happens during delivery, there are bound to be some people receiving a damaged product. 2- Although it LOOKS great, it does seem to be cheaply made (*ahem..China...ahem) and I can definitely imagine this thing will NOT stand up to winds in my area. As mentioned in reviews, durability seems questionable, but I have yet to put it through some weather yet. We will see. 3- This is DEFINITELY not the shade you are looking for if you want the total blocking of sun. The slats between the bamboo pieces are just wide enough to allow some sunlight through. Personally, the style was more important to me than the total blockage of rays, so I am okay with it, but the images are tough to see the gaps for what they are. 4- The instructions are rolled inside of the shade, which is sealed in plastic when you pull it out of the box. One of the first things the instructions say, is keep the shade rolled in the plastic for an easier time measuring and fastening it. So, how the heck are you suppose to know this when instructions are INSIDE the plastic?? Wow. Total snafu. 5- I agree with others that the roll-up, plastic connector pieces will probably not last. Cheap and flimsy. But here's where my tone changes and I can't really rate this shade poorly (yet.) 1- It's frickin' CHEAP compared to other shades with these measurements. Literally, half or a third of the price as most. Sure, some of those make it dummy-proof with a cord, but I'll chime in with others here: for this style and look, it's a helluva good price. 2- I just really like the look. It fits in PERFECT on my porch with a chill, tiki vibe I have going. If you like that kind of thing, this shade is worth all the potential let downs if you can keep it in good shape. Let's hope it lasts.

Title: Love this shade!!!!
Content: Very nice, looks well-made, super easy to install. Still lets in some light (installed on our back covered patio area) and you can still see some things through it, but that's ok. I just wish it was a little more opaque so as to block our movement against our horrible neighbor's robotic fake owl he has up on a pole along the fence line. Even the birds are not scared of that thing.

Title: Love these
Content: Obviously doesn't entirely block the sun, but it does provide enough shade while not blocking the view entirely and looks more natural than plastic shades that will eventually crack in the sun. Very pretty and well made, although they are delicate because the individual reeds are thin. But still very nice and looks as if they will last a long time. I used twine to tie up the extra length instead of the plastic hooks that are included because the twine is not really visible and the plastic hooks included to hold up the extra length are an eye sore, but that's my personal preference. We easily took them down and rolled them up before the hurricane hit and easily put them back up after the storm. Highly recommeded.

Title: Beautiful!
Content: These blinds are exactly what I wanted…perfect colour as they look very natural. They let in the perfect amount of sunlight in my sunroom. My plants are not getting burned by the West sun magnifying through the window anymore. I didn’t want cords as sometimes they get broken. The clips are ok or you can put your own tie on. Don’t get if you are looking for light blocking….these are a light filter only.

Title: Decent quality
Content: More sheer than I expected. We hung it outside. We cannot see from the outside in, but can easily see from the inside out. Good for privacy, not light blocking.

Title: Different Quality
Content: Ordered 2 at the same time. They shipped and arrived separately. One was great quality, thick and sturdy. The other was thin and brittle. Didn’t have time to return as they were needed the following day. Definitely wouldn’t risk buying again.
