They are compact, the blades start spinning relatively fast and the included magnetic thermometer is a great addition to place on your wood burning stove pipe. This unit created 2x the amount of air movement as the previous model I had with Larger blades. They spin faster, yet are silent, but the main reason I’m removing a star is because the air displacement is odd. You would think the fan would blow warm air in the direction it is facing, but instead the most notable air displacement is to the sides. I did a little “match flame & smoke test” to confirm what my hand was telling me. Holding a lit match in front of the fan it danced a little, but when placed directly to the side or above the fan it actually blew out the match. The resulting smoke from the match then showed that the smoke was being blown to the sides away from the fan but not forward in the direction it was facing. I thought maybe this was a “one-off” case but I had purchased two of these and it was the exactly the same result. Not sure why they don’t tweak the blades a bit. I’m still giving it 4 starts because it’s been working fine almost non stop for months now and it does spread heat further around the room. But if you expect to aim the fan at you and have a warm stream of air coming your way, you will be disappointed.

Title: Works great at spreading heat, just not in the direction you would expect
Content: I got these as a replacement for another (larger) Fire place fan and am overall happy. They are compact, the blades start spinning relatively fast and the included magnetic thermometer is a great addition to place on your wood burning stove pipe. This unit created 2x the amount of air movement as the previous model I had with Larger blades. They spin faster, yet are silent, but the main reason I’m removing a star is because the air displacement is odd. You would think the fan would blow warm air in the direction it is facing, but instead the most notable air displacement is to the sides. I did a little “match flame & smoke test” to confirm what my hand was telling me. Holding a lit match in front of the fan it danced a little, but when placed directly to the side or above the fan it actually blew out the match. The resulting smoke from the match then showed that the smoke was being blown to the sides away from the fan but not forward in the direction it was facing. I thought maybe this was a “one-off” case but I had purchased two of these and it was the exactly the same result. Not sure why they don’t tweak the blades a bit. I’m still giving it 4 starts because it’s been working fine almost non stop for months now and it does spread heat further around the room. But if you expect to aim the fan at you and have a warm stream of air coming your way, you will be disappointed.

Content: This is an excellent heat-powered wood stove fan. I don't know how it compares to less expensive ones, but this one is excellent. Note, that the magnetic thermometer that was supplied with the fan shows the temperature that is 40° higher than what I measured with my multimeter with a Type K thermocouple. On the other hand, my 16 year old Rutland magnetic thermometer (Rutland calls it a "Burn Indicator") reads 30°C too low. It is probably better (safer) to have the thermometer err on the high side.

Content: This fan is for minor circulation. This is a great fan for that purpose. Quality fan made for the top back corner of the wood stove. Comes with thermometer that is a magnet and can be put on stove or stove pipe. Many people think that these fans are for blowing the air to other parts of your home. It is not. It is to gently circulate air around the wood stove. I would recommend a box fan placed near but not too close to wood stove to blow warm air into other parts of your home or space. I highly reccomend this fan for it's quality and value. It was delivered promptly.

I grew up when things were made well and affordable, so I lament today's products designed to fail.
